NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF VIET NAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19960125 Biographical Note

Ngo Quang Xuan, the new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, this afternoon presented his credentials to Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

Mr. Ngo has been the Acting Permanent Representative since last year, following his appointment in 1993 as Viet Nam's Ambassador to the United Nations.

Previously, he held a number of positions in his country's Foreign Ministry, including Deputy Director, International Organizations Department (1992-1993), its Assistant Director (1986-1987), and Section Chief (1974- 1985); and Deputy Director, Department for Multilateral Economic and Cultural Cooperation (1988-1991). He was the representative of Viet Nam to the Agence de Cooperation Culturelle et Technique based in Paris from 1990 to 1993.

Mr. Ngo has served as a member of Viet Nam's delegation to several sessions of the General Assembly and has represented his country at numerous international conferences on political, economic and legal matters.

Mr. Ngo holds a diploma from the Institute of International Relations, Viet Nam; and post-graduate degrees from L'Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales, Geneva, and the Diplomatic Academy of Moscow.

Born on 1 January 1951, Mr. Ngo is married and has two children.
