PRESS STATEMENT BY SECURITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT ON AFGHANISTAN


Following is the text of today’s press statement on Afghanistan by the President of the Security Council, Wang Yingfan (China):


The Council members heard the briefing by Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs, Kenzo Oshima, who introduced the report of the Secretary General on the humanitarian implications of the measures imposed by Security Council resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1333 (2000).

IN UNITED NATIONS MILITARY OBSERVER GROUP IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN


Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced today the appointment of Major General Hermann K. Loidolt of Austria as Chief Military Observer in the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to succeed Major General Saavedra whose contract expired on 10 July.

Following the adoption on 19 June 2001 of Security Council resolution

1356 (2001), the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution
