Independent Audit Advisory Committee Holds Sixty-Second Session, 15-17 May

The Independent Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations (IAAC) held its sixty-second session from 15-17 May 2023 at the United Nations Office in Beirut at the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and at the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The session was presided over by the Chair, Imran Vanker. All the other members of the Committee, namely: Janet St. Laurent (Vice-Chair), Dorothy Bradley, Anton Kosyanenko, and Suresh Sharma, were in attendance.

Secretary-General Appoints Ahmed Ben Lassoued of Tunisia Director, United Nations Information Centre in Manama

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Mr. Ahmed Ben Lassoued of Tunisia as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Manama, a field office of the United Nations Department of Global Communications that provides service to Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. He assumed his new duties on 1 May 2023.

Approving 3 Resolutions, Fifth Committee Requests $14.59 Million for Peacekeeping Operations in Abyei, Golan, South Sudan during 2022/23 Fiscal Year

The Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary) today sent the General Assembly three resolutions to help keep three peacekeeping missions running smoothly until the end of June by delivering $14.59 million in additional funding for the 2022/23 fiscal year.

The recent deadly escalation between Israeli security forces and Palestinian armed groups in Gaza was yet another reminder of the volatile security situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the United Nations senior official for Middle East peace told the Security Council today, as members urged parties to observe the recent ceasefire and voiced alarm over the continued violence, settlement activities and inflammatory rhetoric.
