Following is UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message for the Human Rights Council’s special session on the Central African Republic, as delivered by Michael Møller, Acting Head of the United Nations Office in Geneva, today, 20 January:
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said today that 2014 would be decisive in helping Israelis and Palestinians draw back from a perilous and unsustainable status quo, pressing leaders on both sides to take “bold decisions and painful compromises” for peace or face perhaps the last attempt to salvage the two-State solution.
On 23 December 2013, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1591 (2005) concerning the Sudan adopted updated guidelines for the conduct of its work. The updates bring the Committee guidelines in line with the most relevant and recent Security Council resolutions concerning the Sudan sanctions regime.
