The Security Council this morning extended the mandate of the United Nations Operation in Côte d’Ivoire (UNOCI), along with the authorization of French Forces that support it, until 30 June 2016.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Lise Kingo as Executive Director of the United Nations Global Compact.

The work of the Peacebuilding Commission in 2014 had confirmed its potential as a platform for leveraging the political weight of its members in support of peace consolidation, which should be further utilized, the Security Council heard today.

On 19 June 2015, at its second formal meeting, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan held an exchange of views on the implementation of the sanctions measures in pursuance of paragraph 16(g) of the resolution and paragraph 3(b) of the Committee’s Guidelines with the representatives to the United Nations of South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda. 

Without positive efforts by Israeli and Palestinian leaders to move peace negotiations forward, tensions and violence in the region could only worsen, the top United Nations political official told the Security Council this afternoon.
