Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning South Sudan Meets with Regional States
On 19 June 2015, at its second formal meeting, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan held an exchange of views on the implementation of the sanctions measures in pursuance of paragraph 16(g) of the resolution and paragraph 3(b) of the Committee’s Guidelines with the representatives to the United Nations of South Sudan, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Uganda.
The Chair of the Committee encouraged the invited representatives to continue to engage with the Committee and to share information regarding the challenges faced in implementing the travel ban and asset freeze imposed respectively by paragraphs 9 and 12 of the resolution, including by relevant legislation, regulations or administrative guidelines and procedures.
In this context, the Chair underlined that the close cooperation of South Sudan and the regional States and their continued collaboration with the Committee was essential towards the full and effective implementation of the sanctions regime.
