Secretary-General Appoints Vladimir Kuznetsov of Russian Federation Director of United Nations Information Centre in Moscow

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Vladimir Kuznetsov of the Russian Federation as Director of the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Moscow, Russian Federation.  Mr. Kuznetsov assumed his duties today.

With the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda set to formally close at the end of December, and the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia striving to complete its work by the end of 2017, the Presidents and Prosecutors of both bodies, as well as the President of the International Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals briefed the Security Council today on their proceedings.

The Secretary-General spoke at the commemoration in Finland of the sixtieth anniversary of the country’s United Nations membership and welcomed its steps to prevent social exclusion, foster understanding across cultures and religions, and promote human rights.  He also visited an asylum seekers’ centre near the capital.
