The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the 27 March terrorist attack in Lahore, Pakistan, which resulted in the deaths of more than 70 people, while leaving over 250 injured, and for which Tehrik-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility.  They expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Pakistan.  They also wished a speedy recovery to those left injured.

On 28 March 2016, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999), 1989 (2011) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da’esh), Al-Qaida and associated individuals, groups, undertakings and entities approved the addition of the entry specified below to its ISIL (Da’esh) and Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 2 of Security Council resolution 2253 (2015) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

During the Security Council’s open debate on the role of women in conflict prevention and resolution in Africa, United Nations high-level officials say experience shows that actively engaging them and civil society in early diplomatic initiatives improves the chances of helping to prevent and resolve conflicts.

The Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf held its fortieth session at United Nations Headquarters from 1 February to 18 March 2016.
