United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Caroline Tissot of Switzerland as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, with the host Government’s approval, effective on 3 August 2025.

The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) reports that, by the end of 2025, Uganda could be hosting 2 million refugees. This is happening as escalating crises in Sudan, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have been driving an average of 600 people to cross the border daily in search of safety and life-saving aid.

The new Permanent Representative of Montenegro to the United Nations, Dragana Radulović, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

On 1 January, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Peter Lundberg of Sweden as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, with the host Government’s approval.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees called on Guatemalan authorities to fully investigate the violent death of a transgender woman found dead at her home on Saturday in Guatemala City.  She had sought asylum in Guatemala after fleeing violence in El Salvador due to her gender identity.
