PLEDGES ANNOUNCED FOR UN DISARMAMENT INFORMATION PROGRAMME

Fourteen countries pledged $279,755 this morning for disarmament trust funds at the thirteenth United Nations Pledging Conference for the United Nations Disarmament Information Programme, while three additional countries indicated their intention to pledge at a later date. The pledging campaign will remain open until 31 March 1996 for additional contributions.

19951017 Adopts Ban on Use, Transfer of Blinding Laser Weapons, To Continue Negotiations on Land-Mine Protocol at Two Sessions Next Year

As the Review Conference of States Parties to the Convention on Inhumane Weapons entered its second day of high-level debate, speakers continued to be unanimous in supporting the addition of a protocol that would ban blinding laser weapons, and the extension of the land-mines Protocol to apply to non-international conflicts. There was still no clear consensus, however, on the extent to which the production, sale and use of anti-personnel land-mines should be restricted.
