In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following are the new Chairmen of the United Nations security bodies for October:

As the Security Council met this afternoon to take up the situation in Kosovo, Bernard Kouchner, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the province, said that 13 centuries of confrontation between the various ethnic communities had elapsed -- how could one expect to stop the violence in 15 months?
Will Review Situation by 31 October, Including Recommendations for Increase in Troop Strength
The Security Council this morning decided to extend the present mandate of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) until 31 December.
The Security Council this morning authorized the deployment of up to 4,200 troops, including 220 military observers, for the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). It also mandated the mission until March 2001.
Decides to Dispatch Mission To Discuss Implementation of Resolution
Adopts Declaration on Ensuring Councils Effective Role In Maintaining International Peace and Security, Especially in Africa
The Security Council this morning extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) until 20 September by unanimously adopting resolution 1317 (2000).
