SECURITY COUNCIL LIBERIA TIMBER BAN COMES INTO FORCE


NEW YORK, 7 July (Department of Political Affairs) -- The President of the Security Council wishes to inform Member States that the measures contained in paragraph 17 of Security Council resolution 1478 (2003), adopted on 6 May 2003 (ban against the import of all round logs and timber products originating in Liberia), came into force at 00:01 eastern daylight time today.

IN MEETING ON DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, SECURITY COUNCIL HEARS

CALL FOR END TO IMPUNITY FOR PERPETRATORS OF VIOLENCE


As there could be no real peace without an end to impunity, perpetrators of violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo must be brought to justice, the Security Council was told this morning during a briefing on the situation in that country.

OBSERVER MISSION UNTIL 6 OCTOBER

The Security Council decided this afternoon to continue the mandate of the United Nations Iraq-Kuwait Observation Mission (UNIKOM) for a final period until  6 October.
