On 27 July 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee approved the deletion (de-listing) of the eight entries specified below from its Consolidated List. The Committee approved these de-listings following its review of the names, as called for in paragraph 25 of Security Council resolution 1822 (2008). The assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) therefore no longer apply to the following entities:

Reporting mixed progress in achieving the goals of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), its top official urged the Security Council this morning to support a “holistic” approach to ending the conflict and to promote the participation of all parties in the peace process.

On 22 July 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee adopted revised Guidelines for the Conduct of its Work. The Guidelines were revised in compliance with paragraph 35 of Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), which directed the Committee, “as a matter of priority, to review its guidelines with respect to the provisions of [that] resolution…”.

While noting efforts by the Government of Guinea-Bissau to achieve stability, the Security Council expressed serious concern this morning about the continuing growth of drug trafficking and organized crime, which threatened peace and security in the country and the wider subregion.

Detailing the conduct of ongoing “proximity talks” for Middle East peace, a top United Nations official called today on Israelis and Palestinians to remove the obstacles to direct negotiations, as he opened a day-long Security Council debate in which some 37 speakers participated.

On 19 July 2010, the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee approved the addition of the four entries specified below to its Consolidated List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1904 (2009) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe today commended recent steps by the Governments of Eritrea and Djibouti to negotiate a settlement, with Qatar acting as mediator, to the border dispute between them, which erupted into conflict in March 2008.
