The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Nikki R. Haley (United States):

From 4 to 7 September 2018, in cooperation with the United Nations Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) and its Group of Experts, the Russian Federation hosted a training course in Rostov‑on‑Don for 1540 national Points of Contact of the Member States of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).  The course was supported by OSCE and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.

Warning that current trends are jeopardizing the possibility of a two-State solution for Israelis and Palestinians, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process told the Security Council today that the international community must step in to change this grave trajectory.

Speakers in the Security Council today said a relatively stable security situation in Abyei makes it time to consider adjustments to the United Nations peacekeeping force there.  Many stressed, however, that changes to its composition and mission must be preceded by thorough consultations with Khartoum and Juba.

On 19 September 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1518 (2003) approved the removal of the following entities from its List of Individuals and Entities subject to the assets freeze set out by paragraphs 19 and 23 of Security Council resolution 1483 (2003) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations:

Cautiously welcoming a week-old peace deal ending the fighting in South Sudan, Security Council members raised a range of concerns about subsequent clashes and the protracted humanitarian crisis, as high-level officials updated on recent developments today.

Syria, in its eighth year of war, must not miss an opportunity to create the constitutional committee, the top United Nations official tasked with seeking a peaceful resolution to the crisis told the Security Council today, also welcoming the new Russian Turkish agreement to establish a demilitarized zone in Idlib.

On 12 September 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2374 (2017) concerning Mali held informal consultations to hear a briefing by the Acting Special Representative of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) to the United Nations.

Amid the recent rise in civilian casualties inside Afghanistan, decisions made now ahead of elections in October will have far‑reaching implications for the country’s future and play a key role in advancing the peace process, the senior United Nations official in that country told the Security Council today.

On 17 September 2018, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1970 (2011) concerning Libya enacted the amendments specified in the entries below on its List (the Libya Sanctions List) of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze and travel ban set out in paragraphs 15 and/or 17 of Security Council resolution 1970 (2011) and/or paragraph 19 of resolution 1973 (2011), adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations:
