While conflicts in Africa and the Middle East once again dominated the Security Council’s agenda in 2009, the United Nations body charged with maintaining international peace and security also advanced its work on increasingly critical thematic issues such as nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

The Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1521 (2003) concerning Liberia today decided to remove the name of the following individual from the list of individuals subject to the travel restrictions imposed by paragraph 4 (a) of resolution 1521 (2003) (the travel ban list) and the list of individuals and entities subject to the measures imposed by paragraph 1 of resolution 1532 (2004) (the assets freeze list):

In paragraph 3 of Security Council resolution 1854 (2008) the Council, inter alia, directed the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1521 (2003) concerning Liberia to update the guidelines for the conduct of its work, particularly with regard to listing and delisting procedures. On 14 December 2009, the Committee adopted updated guidelines for the conduct of its work.
