Calling for decisive action to reverse the growing perception that the two-State solution was dying a death “by a thousand cuts”, the top United Nations Middle East envoy today urged Israeli and Palestinian leaders to engage in a broad political framework with the goal of achieving a final status agreement, during the Security Council’s quarterly open debate on the subject.

Libya was at a critical stage and the political agreement signed by several of its leaders last week had brought the country one step closer to ending its four-year conflict, the senior United Nations official there told the Security Council today, urging all parties to engage constructively in the dialogue process.

On 14 July 2015, the Secretary-General appointed Catherine Marchi-Uhel (France) to serve as Ombudsperson pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), to assist the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) concerning Al-Qaida and associated individuals and entities in its consideration of requests for removal from the Committee’s Sanctions List.
