SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS CATHERINE BERTINI OF UNITED STATES


AS NEW UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR MANAGEMENT


The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Catherine Bertini of the United States as the new Under-Secretary-General for Management, succeeding Joseph Connor, effective 1 January 2003.

SECRETARY-GENERAL PROPOSES BASIS FOR AGREEMENT TO CYPRUS PARTIES


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


The Secretary-General conveyed today to Mr. Clerides, the Greek Cypriot leader, and to Mr. Rauf Denktash, the Turkish Cypriot leader, a document providing a basis for agreement on a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus problem.

WITH LEADING FIGURES IN YANGON, 12 - 16 NOVEMBER


The following statement was issued today by the Office of the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


Razali Ismail, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Myanmar, will visit Yangon from 12 to 16 November 2002 to help facilitate the national reconciliation process in Myanmar.  It will be his ninth mission as Special Envoy.
