United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, accompanied by Madam Ban Soon-taek, arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon, 18 June, on a flight that left New York on Monday, 17 June.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon confirmed the appointment of Jean-Paul Laborde (France) as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) at the Assistant Secretary-General level, following the concurrence of the Security Council. He will succeed Mike Smith (Australia), to whom the Secretary-General is deeply grateful for his dedication and able leadership.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, have appointed Joseph Mutaboba of Rwanda as African Union and United Nations Deputy Joint Special Representative and Deputy Head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).
