The Secretary-General arrived in Luxembourg in the evening of Thursday, 28 January. He was welcomed by Jacques F. Poos, Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Luxembourg.

SECRETARY-GENERAL'S VISIT TO BELGIUM, 26-28 JANUARY

The Secretary-General travelled from Geneva to Brussels in the evening of Tuesday, 26 January. He was welcomed to Belgium by the Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Erik Derycke.

At 9:30 a.m. on the following day, he met with the families of the Belgian peacekeepers killed in Rwanda in 1994. He then had an audience with King Albert II at the Palais Royal.

SECRETARY-GENERAL'S VISIT TO SWITZERLAND, 23-26 JANUARY

The Secretary-General arrived in Geneva from Dublin, Ireland, on Saturday afternoon, 23 January.

On Sunday, following the decision taken at the Arusha Regional Summit by Burundi's neighbouring countries to suspend economic sanctions imposed on that country, the Secretary-General issued a statement welcoming this move (see Press Release SG/SM/6871).
