The Secretary-General:  Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen.

SECRETARY-GENERAL LAUNCHES NEW ROUND OF UNITED NATIONS REFORM

NEW YORK, 23 September -- Secretary-General Kofi A. Annan announced today a plan to further strengthen the United Nations and improve its ability to meet the challenges placed before it by the Member States and the world’s peoples.

‘WOMEN’S FULL PARTICIPATION’ IN CONFLICT RESOLUTION VITAL TO PROMOTION

SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS ARMED ATTACKS IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE

The Secretary-General is deeply concerned by reports of armed attacks by elements of the armed forces of Côte d’Ivoire in various parts of the country.  The Secretary-General is particularly saddened by the loss of life that has ensued.
