United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today announced the appointment of Edmond Mulet of Guatemala as his Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, to succeed Hédi Annabi of Tunisia, who tragically perished in the 12 January 2010 earthquake.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told a Headquarters press conference today at the conclusion of the one-day International Donors’ Conference for Haiti aimed at securing financial resources for the earthquake-stricken country’s recovery that the friends of Haiti had acted far beyond expectations.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Sirte, Libya, on Friday, 25 March 2010, to participate in the Summit meeting there of the League of Arab States. He was greeted at the airport by the country’s leader, Colonel Muammar al-Qadhafi, who welcomed his attendance at the Summit, which Colonel Qadhafi chaired.
