Ahmat A. Haggar, the new Permanent Representative of Chad, presented his credentials to Secretary-General Kofi Annan this afternoon.
Mr. Haggar joined the civil service of Chad in 1972, serving as the Deputy Prefect of Am Timan (Salamat Prefecture). He entered the diplomatic service in 1974, and became Minister for Foreign Affairs in 1994.
The Security Council this morning authorized the United Nations Mission of Observers in Prevlaka (UNMOP), which consists of 28 military observers, to continue monitoring the demilitarization of the Prevlaka peninsula until 15 July.
