DAG HAMMARSKJÖLD LIBRARY TO HOLD WORKSHOP FOR EFFECTIVE USE OF UNITED NATIONS DOCUMENTATION, 20-22 JANUARY

19980113 The Dag Hammarskjöld Library, Department of Public Information (DPI), will hold a three-day workshop, beginning Tuesday, 20 January, to prepare delegates and staff of permanent missions to the United Nations and of the Secretariat for more effective use of the various information resources and technologies available at the Library.

The workshop will help participants develop skills in retrieving information and documentation generated by various principal and subsidiary bodies of the United Nations, with a special focus on the General Assembly and the Security Council. It will also offer approaches to achieving self- reliance in the use and management of United Nations documents.

Each half-day session will have a different focus, as follows:

-- Session 1, The basics of United Nations documentation and the use of primary reference tools: Tuesday, 20 January, 9:30 a.m. to noon;

-- Session 2: Guide to the Indexes to Proceedings: Wednesday, 21 January. 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and

-- Session 3: United Nations Web search: Advanced searching on United Nations system sites on the Internet: Thursday, 22 January, 9:30 a.m. to noon.

The workshop will be held in the training room of the Library, Room L-270C.

Delegates, staff of permanent missions, and all Secretariat staff members are invited to register for the entire programme or for individual sessions. Registration is limited in order to ensure that individual attention can be given to each participant.
