HIGH COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS APPROVES AROUND $7.8 MILLION

IN GRANTS FOR TORTURE SURVIVORS

GENEVA, 15 July (Office of the UNHCHR) -- United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson has approved, on behalf of the Secretary-General, grants amounting to around $7.8 million to organizations supporting survivors of torture.

NEW YORK, 15 July (Department for Disarmament Affairs) -- The Secretary-General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters will meet for a three-day closed session in Geneva from 17 to 19 July 2002.  Its last session was held in New York from 30 January to 1 February 2002.  The Board meets twice a year.

LATEST ECONOMIC REPORT ON AFRICA TO BE RELEASED 16 JULY

ADDIS ABABA, 12 July (ECA) -- The latest Economic Report on Africa (ERA 2002), the annual flagship publication of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) that provides a unique perspective on the continent’s socio-economic development progress, will be officially released on 16 July.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan arrived in the Sudan from Durban, South Africa, on Wednesday, 10 July.
