Council meeting on the anniversary of the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States:

Following is the message by Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, on 16 September:

Life started to develop significantly on our planet only after the ozone layer was in place in the stratosphere to filter out harmful levels of sunlight.  The battle to repair this life-sustaining system is far from over.
