Following is the message of Secretary-General Kofi Annan to the Sixth Summit of leaders and heads of State of the Community of Sahelo-Saharan States (CENSAD), held in Bamako, Mali, from 15 to 16 May, which was read by Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa:

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS JAVIER RUPEREZ OF SPAIN AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

OF COUNTER-TERRORISM EXECUTIVE DIRECTORATE

Following consultations with the Security Council, the Secretary-General announced the appointment of Javier Rupérez as Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate at the Assistant Secretary-General level.  The Security Council, by its resolution 1535, established the post.
