UNITED NATIONS IN VIENNA OBSERVES FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF UN BAGHDAD TRAGEDY

VIENNA, 19 August (UN Information Service) -- A ceremony to commemorate the first anniversary of the bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad took place at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) today.  Simultaneous ceremonies were held in Amman, Geneva and New York.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS SHALINI DEWAN AS DIRECTOR


OF UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE IN NEW DELHI


Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Shalini Dewan as the Director of the United Nations Information Centre in New Delhi.  Ms. Dewan, who took up her duties on 16 August, succeeds Feodor Starcevic, who has retired from the service of the Organization.

VOLKER PETZOLDT APPOINTed DIRECTOR OF UN INFORMATION CENTRE IN MEXICO CITY


Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Volker Petzoldt as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Mexico City.  Mr. Petzoldt, who will assume his duties on 23 August 2004, succeeds Angel Escudero, who has retired from the service of the Organization.
