MAJOR-GENERAL RAJENDER SINGH APPOINTED FORCE COMMANDER
OF UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA
The Secretary-General has appointed Major-General Rajender Singh of India as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE). The Major-General is expected to arrive in the Mission area by 19 July 2004.

GAZA, 14 July (UNRWA) -- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) today delivered 370 tons of food aid to the population of Beit Hanoun in the north of the Gaza Strip. The aid will provide food for approximately 20,000 persons, two thirds of the population of the besieged town.

APPEAL FOR AID AFTER NICARAGUA FLOODS, MUDSLIDES
NEW YORK, 14 July (OCHA) -- United Nations agencies have requested just under $1 million to meet the needs of 5,751 people affected by the recent floods and mudslides in Nicaragua. The appeal, covering a period of three months, intends to raise funds for health care, agricultural rehabilitation, food aid, education and psycho-social therapy, among other things.
