The twenty-second Meeting of States parties to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea will be held at Headquarters from 4 to 11 June.

On 1 June 2012, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1988 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with strikethrough and underline in the entries below to its List (the 1988 Sanctions List) of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 1988 (2011) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations.

In May 2012, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, through its Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC) provided a set of small arms destruction equipment to the Dominican Republic and trained national officers on the use of the equipment. These activities aim to strengthen the capacity of the Dominican Republic to combat the illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons nationally, as well as in the Caribbean region.

For the position of Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has selected Wu Hongbo of China, who since 2009 has been Ambassador of China to Germany. Mr. Wu has over 30 years of high-level experience, including close collaboration in international conferences and with multilateral organizations.

For the position of Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has selected Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal of Austria, who since 2007 has been the Spokesman and Head of the Department for Communication and Information of the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.
