The following Security Council press statement was issued today by Council President Mohammed Loulichki (Morocco):

On 12 November 2012, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) considered the final report of the Group of Experts on the DRC (S/2012/843), which is available on the Committee’s website.

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared the decade 2014‑2024 as the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All, underscoring the importance of energy issues for sustainable development and for the elaboration of the post-2015 development agenda.

Following are UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s remarks at the Security Council open debate on post-conflict peacebuilding, in New York, 20 December:

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced today the appointment of Mohamed ibn Chambas of Ghana as their Joint Special Representative for Darfur and Head of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), with responsibilities including those of African Union-United Nations Joint Chief Mediator.

On 20 December 2012, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1737 (2006) decided to designate the following two entities under sanctions:

Julio Xavier Lasso Mendoza, the new Permanent Representative of Ecuador to the United Nations, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Aunese Makoi Simati, the new Permanent Representative of Tuvalu to the United Nations, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Ahmed Sareer, the new Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.
