General Assembly adopts work plan for Fifty-Ninth Session

 


Acting on the recommendations of its General Committee, the General Assembly this morning adopted its work plan for the fifty-ninth session.


With the adoption of its organization of work and agenda, contained in document A/59/250, the Assembly decided that its current session would recess on Tuesday, 14 December, and close on Monday, 12 September 2005.

Biographical Note


KYAW TINT SWE OF MYANMAR CHAIRMAN OF FOURTH COMMITTEE


Kyaw Tint Swe, Permanent Representative of Myanmar, was elected Chairman of the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) on 10 June this year.


Prior to his appointment as Permanent Representative in April 2001, Mr. Swe was Director-General of the International Organizations and Economic Department of his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONCLUDES FIFTY-EIGHTH SESSION


The General Assembly closed its fifty-eighth substantive session this afternoon, with outgoing President, Julian Robert Hunte (Saint Lucia), praising the body’s genuine drive to overcome the crisis of confidence that had gripped the United Nations in the wake of the war in Iraq.
