AS NEW UNDER-SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR MANAGEMENT


The Secretary-General today announced the appointment of Catherine Bertini of the United States as the new Under-Secretary-General for Management, succeeding Joseph Connor, effective 1 January 2003.

JAMES LEMOYNE APPOINTED SPECIAL ADVISER ON COLOMBIA


The Secretary-General has appointed James LeMoyne as Special Adviser on Colombia.  Mr. LeMoyne had been serving as Acting Special Adviser since January 2002.  The appointment, at the Assistant Secretary-General level, is effective as of 1 November.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS AMINATA S. DJERMAKOYE AS CHIEF OF PROTOCOL


Aminata S. Djermakoye, formerly Chef de Cabinet in the United Nations Office at Geneva, took up her appointment today, 1 November, as Chief of Protocol at United Nations Headquarters.

SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW MILITARY ADVISER

IN PEACEKEEPING OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT


The Secretary-General has appointed Major General Patrick Cammaert as Military Adviser in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.  The appointment will become effective in November.


Major General Cammaert, a national of the Netherlands, will succeed Major General Tim Ford from Australia.

Biographical Note


SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS NEW FORCE COMMANDER FOR UNITED NATIONS


MISSION IN ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA


Secretary-General Kofi Annan has today appointed Major-General Robert Gordon of the United Kingdom as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).  The Major-General is expected to arrive in the Mission area by late October 2002.
