Biographical Note

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Damian Cardona Onses of Spain as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Canberra, Australia.  Mr. Cardona assumed his duties on 20 April.

On 4 April, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed George Wachira of Kenya as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Eswatini, with the host Government’s approval.

On 1 April, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Jose Barahona of Spain as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Djibouti, with the host Government’s approval.

The new Permanent Representative of Rwanda to the United Nations, Claver Gatete, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Before his latest appointment, Mr. Gatete held Cabinet positions in his country’s Government, serving most recently as Minister for Infrastructure beginning in 2018.  He was the Minister for Finance and Economic Planning from 2013.

On 1 March, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Karla Robin Hershey of the United States as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bhutan, with the host Government’s approval.

On 13 March, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Claudia Mojica of El Salvador as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Argentina, with the host Government’s approval.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres appointed Eric Jan Overvest of the Netherlands today as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sao Tome and Principe, with the host Government’s approval.  He takes up his post on 17 March.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced today the appointment of Raúl Rosende of Uruguay as his new Deputy Special Representative in the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia.

The new Permanent Representative of the Bahamas to the United Nations, Stan Smith, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

The new Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the United Nations, Menissa Rambally, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.
