ETHIOPIA:  DROUGHT-HIT FARMERS RECEIVE EMERGENCY AID

ROME/ADDIS ABABA, 10 June (FAO) -- Drought-hit Ethiopian farmers have received emergency agricultural assistance to help them prepare land for the next planting season after months of devastating crop failure, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said today.

NEW YORK, 9 June (UN Department of Political Affairs) -- On 6 June, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1343 (2001) approved the removal of two persons from the list of individuals affected by the measures contained in paragraph 7 of the resolution 1343 (2001), extended by paragraph 5 of resolution 1408 (2002) and paragraph 10 of resolution 1478 (2003):

SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS COUP ATTEMPT IN MAURITANIA

The Secretary-General strongly condemns ongoing armed attempts to overthrow the constitutional Government of President Ould Taya in Mauritania.  He is deeply concerned over reports of widespread violence, injuries suffered by the civilian population and looting.
