7.2 MILLION PEOPLE STILL NEED FOOD AID IN ETHIOPIA, DESPITE GOOD HARVEST IN 2003

ROME, 14 January (FAO/WFP) -- Despite a good harvest, 7.2 million people still require assistance to meet minimum food requirements in 2004, according to a joint report released today by two United Nations agencies.  Last year, 13.2 million Ethiopians needed food assistance.

SECRETARY-GENERAL SHOCKED BY BRUTAL MURDER OF APOSTOLIC NUNCIO IN BURUNDI


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


The Secretary-General was deeply shocked and saddened to learn the news of the tragic death of Monsignor Michael Courtney, the Apostolic Nuncio in Burundi, who was brutally murdered during a road ambush today in Minago, about 50 kilometres south of Bujumbura in Bururi province.
