ROME, 10 May (FAO)) -- Damage from the 2004 drought and locust infestations is aggravating the food situation in parts of Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger and northern Senegal, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said in a statement today.

Seeds, Tools, Training to 94,000 Vulnerable Households

ROME, 5 May (FAO) -- The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will provide 94,000 vulnerable households in internally displaced person (IDP) camps in northern Uganda with seeds, tools and agricultural training to help reduce their dependence on food aid.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan has designated François Lonseny Fall as his Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the United Nations Political Office for Somalia (UNPOS).  Mr. Fall will assume his duties later this month in Nairobi, Kenya, where the Office is currently located.

UNITED NATIONS ISSUES FLASH APPEAL FOR DJIBOUTI

 


NEW YORK, 27 April (OCHA) -- The United Nations has issued a Flash Appeal for Djibouti, asking $7.5 million to combat the severe food crisis threatening the country.  The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said today that immediate needs include food aid for 28,650 people and water for 18,000.  The Government of Djibouti earlier requested international assistance.
