Security Council press statement on Côte d’Ivoire

 


Following is the press statement on Côte d’Ivoire delivered by Council President Jean-Marc de La Sablière (France):


The members of the Security Council heard a briefing by Hédi Annabi, Assistant Secretary-General, on the massacres that occurred in the region of Duékoué, in the West of Côte d’Ivoire.

SEVERE SHORTAGE IN FUNDING FOR DJIBOUTI DROUGHT


NEW YORK, 6 June (OCHA) -- Six weeks into the flash appeal for $7.5 million for drought relief in Djibouti, donors have failed to provide funding for 95 per cent of needs, leaving the agricultural, food and coordination sectors of the appeal wholly unfunded.

SECRETARY-GENERAL CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON CÔTE D’IVOIREVILLAGE

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:


The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attack by Ivorian armed elements on the village of Guetrozon near Douékoué in western Côte d’Ivoire on 31 May and 1 June, which has reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 41 people.

UN HUMANITARIAN OFFICE CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON CIVILIANS

 

IN NINDJA, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO


BUKAVU, May 31 (OCHA) -- Innocent civilians have been, once again, caught up in the fighting between armed groups in South Kivu, with 19 people killed and many others wounded during an attack on the collectivity of Nindja, 75 km north-west of Bukavu, South Kivu, last Monday.
