The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for
Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
In accordance with paragraph 12 of Security Council resolution 1333 (2000), the Committee is actively working on a list of organizations and governmental relief agencies providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan that shall be exempt from the prohibitions imposed by paragraph 11 of Security Council resolution 1333 (2000) and paragraph 4(a) of Security Council resolution 1267 (1999).
In a note verbale addressed to Member States on 12 April 2000, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1267 (1999) concerning Afghanistan designated funds and financial resources of the Taliban and approved a list of entities and/or persons that have so far been identified by the Committee based on information provided by Member States as falling under one of the categories mentioned in the above note, as well as in press release SC/6844.

The Secretary-General is distressed about the attacks against United Nations offices in Afghanistan. He condemns the destruction of United Nations property in several locations in Afghanistan on 14 and 15 November.
ISLAMABAD, 5 November (United Nations Information Centre) -- Initial reports indicate that more children were covered during the latest round of National Immunization Days (NIDs) than in May and June this year. The immunization campaign aims to eradicate polio from Afghanistan by the year 2000.
