General Assembly Approves $6.45 Billion Budget for 11 United Nations Peacekeeping Operations
The General Assembly, following on the recommendations of its Fifth Committee (Administrative and Budgetary), funded 11 United Nations peacekeeping operations with a budget of $6.45 billion this evening.
As in the Fifth Committee, the resolution on the financing of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) was adopted by a vote. In the Assembly, the vote to approve the financing of UNIFIL was 115 in favour to 3 against (Canada, United States, Israel) with 2 abstentions (Malawi, Papua New Guinea).
The Assembly also elected Greece to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for a term running from 29 June 2022 until the day before the eighty-first session in 2028. The organ will meet again on Thursday, 30 June, to hold a high-level meeting on improving global road safety.
