New Permanent Representative of Kuwait Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations, Tareq M A M Albanai, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General António Guterres today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Albanai held several positions at his country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 2017 to 2022, including Minister Plenipotentiary for Disarmament and Political Affairs and Counsellor, Security Council Political Coordinator.

Between 2011 and 2017, he was Counsellor and Head of the Political Affairs Desk in the Office of the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.  From 2009 to 2011, he served as Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Kuwait in Madrid.  He also served at his country’s Embassy in Tehran as First Secretary, Disarmament and Political Affairs, from 2007 to 2009 and from 2004 to 2006.

Between 2006 and 2007, he held the position of Adviser on disarmament and economic affairs in the Office of the President of the General Assembly of the United Nations.  He also was Second Secretary and Third Secretary to the Permanent Mission of Kuwait to the United Nations in disarmament and economic affairs from 1998 to 2004.  From 1997 to 1998, he served as the Diplomatic Attaché, in Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Americas Department, as the Desk Officer for Latin America.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in international relations and psychology from the George Washington University, United States, in 1995.
