Briefing by Chair of Security Council Sanctions Committee Concerning Democratic Republic of the Congo on Visit to Region
On 8 September 2016, the Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1533 (2004) concerning the Democratic Republic of the Congo briefed the members of the Committee on his trip, from 1 to 6 August, to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.
The Chair informed the members that the trip was well-timed and had presented an opportunity to listen first hand to the assessment of the concerned Governments and other interlocutors on the effectiveness and impact of the Democratic Republic of the Congo sanctions regime. The meetings held during the visit had been an opportunity for him to explain the work of the Sanctions Committee and encourage interlocutors to raise issues of concern that could be relayed to the Committee in New York. The Chair expressed his intention to continue to work on enhancing the cooperation of the countries in the region with the Committee.
Members of the Committee welcomed the visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and region and highlighted the necessity to use this visit as an opportunity to further cooperation with the countries visited.
