HIGHEST LEVEL COORDINATION BODY IN UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM MEETS AT GENEVA
19980327 GENEVA, 27 March (UN Information Service) -- The Administrative Committee on Coordination (ACC), the highest level coordination body in the United Nations system, will be meeting at the United Nations Office at Geneva on 27 and 28 March.Secretary-General Kofi Annan is presiding over the meeting. The session is attended by the heads of the specialized agencies and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as by the heads of United Nations funds and programmes.
The Committee is expected to consider at the present session the coordination of United Nations activities to combat poverty; reform processes under way in the United Nations agencies; United Nations system strategies in post-conflict or crisis situations; and administrative and management issues.
The ACC holds two annual sessions -- the first at Geneva or at the headquarters of one of its member organizations, and the second at Headquarters in New York.
Expected to attend the ACC session are the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Michel Hansenne; Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Jacques Diouf; Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Federico Mayor; Director-General of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Philippe H.P. Rochat; Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Hiroshi Nakajima; Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Michel Camdessus; Director-General of the Universal Postal Union, Thomas E. Leavey; Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Pekka J. Tarjanne; Secretary- General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), G.O.P. Obasi; Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Kamel Idriss; and President the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Fawzi Hamad Al-Sultan.
