The cultural cancer of violence against women must be attacked through education, an expert member of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women said this afternoon, as that body concluded its consideration of South Africa's initial report on the situation of women.
Despite the legacy of discrimination and underdevelopment of the apartheid regime, South Africa had made significant achievements in promoting the equality of women, the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women was told this morning, as that country presented its first-ever report.
