The Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) approved 15 draft resolutions today, expressing itself on the rights of children and advancement of women, as well as on the protection of refugees in Africa and the implementation of minimum accessibility standards for persons with disabilities, among other topics.

One year after the signing of the Global Compact on Refugees, the inaugural Global Refugee Forum, to be held in Geneva in December, will offer a unique opportunity to meet the commitments of this historic 2018 agreement, Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) delegates said today, calling on the international community to tackle the causes of displacement.

Some 71 million people are now displaced globally owing to conflict, violence and persecution, and the number continues to rise, Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), told the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) today, as delegates discussed challenges and roadblocks to building a more inclusive, equitable, and non‑discriminatory world.
