SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON AFGHANISTAN ADOPTS GUIDELINES, AUTHORIZES TRAVEL BY AFGHAN PILGRIMS TO PERFORM THE HAJJ

On 1 February 2000, the Committee adopted the Guidelines for the conduct of its work. On 4 February 2000, the Guidelines were transmitted to all States, as well as international organizations and specialized agencies, for their use, as appropriate.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXPANDS MANDATE, NUMBERS OF SIERRA LEONE FORCE, ADOPTING RESOLUTION 1289 (2000) UNANIMOUSLY

The Security Council this afternoon to expanded the military component of the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) to a maximum of 11,100, including the 260 military observers already deployed, and extended UNAMSIL’s mandate for a further six months from today.

SECURITY COUNCIL REFERS TUVALU'S APPLICATION FOR UN MEMBERSHIP TO COMMITTEE ON ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS

SECURITY COUNCIL, IN PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT, EXPRESSES DETERMINATION TO SUPPORT LUSAKA PEACE AGREEMENT IN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

The Security Council this afternoon expressed its determination to support implementation of the July 1999 Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its intention to act promptly along the lines recommended by the Secretary-General in his report to the Council.
