Continuing hostilities in the Equateur and Kasai provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, uninterrupted violence in Kivu and heavy fighting between foreign armies in the city of Kisangani were among the key elements of the Congolese crisis, the President of the Security Council said this afternoon.

Unanimously adopting resolution 1303 (2000), the Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) until 15 December.
The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) would need a significant number of years to complete its job, Bernard Kouchner, the Secretary-General's Special Representative and head of UNMIK told the Security Council this morning.

The Security Council decided tonight to extend the Iraq oil-for-food programme for a further 180-day period beginning tomorrow.
The Prosecutor for the International Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda, Carla Del Ponte, told the Security Council this morning that an increasingly urgent problem for the Rwanda Tribunal was the length of trials and pre-trial detention faced by most accused.
The Security Council this afternoon requested the Secretary-General to establish for a period of six months an expert panel on the illegal exploitation of natural resources and other forms of wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which should produce recommendations on the matter.
