PRESS STATEMENT ON KOSOVO BY PRESIDENT OF SECURITY COUNCIL
Following is the text of today’s press statement on Kosovo by the President of the Security Council, Adolfo Aguilar Zinser (Mexico):
Members of the Security Council were briefed by Hédi Annabi, Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, on the situation in Kosovo.
Members of the Security Council were pleased by the agreement reached last night in Kosovo, Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, on the nomination of the President and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, subject to ratification by the Assembly.
Members of the Council regarded this as an important step forward in the implementation of resolution 1244 and the establishment of provisional self-governing institutions in Kosovo.
Members of the Council looked forward to the elected leaders working in this positive spirit to build a better future for all the inhabitants of Kosovo.
Members of the Council thanked particularly the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Michael Steiner, for his contribution in facilitating this development.
