Haiti’s progress was “obvious”, given its strong steps towards recovery in the political, social and security sectors, as well as signs that the country was poised to overcome the steep challenges ahead, the senior United Nations official there told the Security Council today.

On 26 September 2012, the Security Council Al-Qaida Sanctions Committee decided to remove the name of the individual below from the Al-Qaida Sanctions List after concluding its consideration of a delisting request submitted through the Ombudsperson established pursuant to Security Council resolution 1904 (2009), and after considering the Comprehensive Report of the Ombudsperson on this delisting request.

The Security Council voiced its strong support today for the contribution of the League of Arab States to collective efforts for the peaceful settlement of conflicts in the Middle East, and welcomed the intensification of its cooperation with the United Nations in the wake of recent transformations, during a high-level meeting on peace and security in the region.

The Security Council heard a briefing on 20 September by Special Envoy Haile Menkerios on the implementation of resolution 2046 (2012) and the African Union road map.
