The Security Council this afternoon approved the Secretary-General's proposal to increase the number of lightly armed international and local security personnel to help protect the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG).

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME TO IRAQ -- 'OIL-FOR-FOOD' -- FOR 180 DAYS BEGINNING ON 26 NOVEMBER

The Security Council this afternoon decided to extend the programme of humanitarian assistance to Iraq known as "oil-for-food" for a period of 180 days beginning on 26 November at 00:01 a.m. EST. That programme allows Iraq to sell oil to purchase humanitarian goods for the Iraqi people.
