On 4 August 2014, the Security Council Committee pursuant to resolutions 1267 (1999) and 1989 (2011) enacted the amendments specified with underline and strikethrough in the entries below on its Al-Qaida Sanctions List of individuals and entities subject to the assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo set out in paragraph 1 of Security Council resolution 2161 (2014) adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations:

The crises in Gaza, Syria and eastern Ukraine would be among the Security Council’s top priorities in August, Mark Lyall Grant (United Kingdom), Council President for the month, said at a Headquarters press conference today.

Damage to neighbourhoods and essential infrastructure in Gaza was clear, and it was past time for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, the Commissioner General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East told the Security Council today following its late-day announcement yesterday to convene a further meeting on the situation.

On 30 July 2014, the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 1718 (2006) approved updates to the list of entities and individuals.

The Security Council extended the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus until 31 July 2015 today, noting that progress made thus far had not yet resulted in a comprehensive and durable settlement between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides.

Although the Security Council should be commended for overcoming divisions and adopting important measures in the face of several grave international crises, it remained clear that Council members were once again unable or unwilling to use their influence to find sustainable political solutions, the representative of Rwanda, Council President, told the 15-member body today.

The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq for another year until 31 July 2015.
